Archdiocese of Washington Child Protection Policy
Welcome to the Saint Peter’s School Community. We value parents who are committed to participation in our school’s programs and events. Parent volunteers are vital to the success of many of the programs that make our school and its students so successful and we invite you to get involved right away. There are many ways to share your time and talents. Monitoring students at recess and delivering hot lunch, helping students in the Library or Computer Lab, chaperoning field trips, or helping teachers and students in the classrooms are just a few of the volunteer opportunities that are available to parents. Information about these and other opportunities will be provided to you.
Many of our school’s volunteer programs involve adults working with/around children. Adults who have substantial contact with children are required to be in full compliance with the requirements of the Archdiocese of Washington Child Protection Policy. Instructions are as follows:
- Register online in the Virtus database, www.virtusonline.org
- Attend a Virtus workshop, scheduled through the website above
- Complete a paper volunteer application (click here to view)
- Apply in person for an electronic background check at the local agency (Saint Peter’s parish or school). Call and schedule an appointment and please note that this requires two government-issued forms of identification.
Please realize that the application must be completed and returned to school and an account created in the VIRTUS database, www.virtusonline.org, prior to scheduling a background check.
We hope this is the beginning of a long partnership between Saint Peter’s and your family. Thank you for sharing your time and talents with our community. And, most importantly, thank you for your support of the Child Protection Policy that protects all our children. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me in the school office, 301-774-9112, ext. 300, or by email at Melanie.corless@stpetersolney.org.
